This week we are hosting the talented Year 10 students from St Columba’s College for an innovative Work Experience Immersion Project.
On Monday we guided the students through a day of discovery. We delved into:
✔Exploring Career Pathways in Construction
✔Prioritising Safety First
✔Embracing Sustainability and Environment
✔Delivering Uncompromising Quality
We then took them to SCAPE where they were taken on a site tour to see: how we build, how we keep the site safe, how we’re building sustainably and how we maintain a positive, respectful culture on site.
During their immersive work experience with Kapitol, year 10 students presented innovative ideas for improving safety, sustainability, and inclusivity in the construction industry. These ideas emerged after they conducted a site walk of our SCAPE project, aiming to elevate safety, environmental consciousness, and workplace culture.
The students not only presented fantastic concepts but created prototypes, offering a fresh and insightful perspective on these crucial topics.
Safety Initiatives
👷♂️ a first aid pod designed for mobility around site
👷♂️ a portable silica dust purifier that cleanses the air of harmful silica dust
👷♂️ a sunscreen dispenser with a UV mirror so you can see how much of your body was covered by the sun screen
Environment and Sustainability Initiatives
🌱 Recycled Plastic Penetration Covers as an eco-friendly alternative to single-use timber, reducing our environmental footprint
🌱 First Aid Pod using sustainable timber, underlining their dedication to green practices
Culture Initiatives
👷♀️ the students created a promotional video on how to inspire and attract women into the industry
👷♀️ they designed specialised PPE Clothing tailored to the unique needs of women, featuring shorter arm lengths, built-in support bras, and padded shoulders for additional comfort
The students absolutely nailed the brief and hopefully we have opened their perspectives of what a career in the construction industry could be. Thank you to St Columbas for inviting us, with opportunities like this together, we're building a safer, more sustainable, and inclusive industry 💪
