The Kapitol team were fortunate to attend Women in Design and Construction Victoria’s final event for 2022 on the topic ‘Vulnerability is the New Black’, featuring our wonderful Project Coordinator, Roya Richmond.
At times, we all face doubts about speaking up due to fear of rejection. However, being open and vulnerable presents many benefits both inside and outside of work.
“By being vulnerable you’re opening up a line of communication with someone and you’re connecting with them and creating a safe space", explained Roya during the panel session. “That’s how you form great relationships, both inside and outside of work. Once you realise the benefits of being vulnerable there’s no embarrassment about being honest.”
“I have a tendency to sit on something and not realise the weight of that and the repercussions. However, if I have a good relationship where I can be open with my managers then it’s easier for me to escalate things. I can be honest about where something is at and I can be comfortable reaching out for help. It also helps a lot with the team dynamic because the flow of information from me to my manager needs to be a really clear and open channel.”
A big thank you to WIDAC for providing a platform for both women and men in our industry to network and discuss sensitive topics in a safe, open and non-judgemental space.
