In collaboration with Pique Global, we’ve crafted the Inspire Leadership Program to tackle the unique challenges our leaders face in the construction industry. This bespoke program is designed to enhance the capabilities of our senior leaders while cultivating a culture aligned with our core values. The team were taken through a range of learning modules and workshops sharing their personal stories and lessons learnt in their roles.
Learn more about Module 1: Leading Authentically.
Revisiting the Journey So Far
In Module 1: Leading Authentically, our leaders explored self-awareness through leadership circle profiling, peer insights, and personal reflection. This experience laid a foundation for growth, reinforcing that meaningful leadership begins with intentional shifts in mindset and behaviour.
Grainne Moore, HSEQ Manager, reflected on her experience:
“Taking a step back…instead of leading the way, I tried to get my team to lead the safety inspection. It was hard because my automatic reaction is to do, but taking a step back gives my team a learning curve where I provide feedback at the end. I haven’t perfected it the process yet, but it’s a journey I’m enjoying.”
As they reunited for Module 2: Supporting Team Performance, leaders reflected on their progress and shared how they’ve begun applying these principles within their teams—affirming the critical truth: "Nothing changes if nothing changes."
Module 2: Supporting Team Performance
Building on authenticity, Module 2 focused on the key elements required to create and sustain high-performing teams.
Trust as the Foundation
Trust is the cornerstone of successful teams. Leaders used frameworks like Lencioni’s Team Dysfunctions Model to understand how to foster psychological safety—environments where team members feel empowered to contribute openly, take risks, and collaborate effectively.
Coaching for Growth
Through practical exercises, leaders developed techniques for tailoring feedback and shifting from delegating tasks to delegating outcomes. This approach not only built accountability but also reinforced trust in their teams’ potential.
Constructive Conflict
Conflict was reframed as a valuable growth opportunity. Leaders practiced navigating difficult conversations with empathy and clarity, enhancing team relationships and overall performance.
A standout moment of the training retreat was a live coaching session with Kapitol Director Andrew Deveson, who shared candid insights from his leadership journey. His openness underscored the importance of reflection and adaptability in effective leadership.
Andrew Monagle, Project Manager, shared a key takeaway:
“It was valuable thinking about what motivates people, and how different backgrounds result in different biases towards different things. It’s useful to reflect on how it’s important to pick up on those cues and tailor the way you communicate to suit the listener, not what feels good for you.”
360 Feedback – Leadership Circle Profile
Insights from the Leadership Circle Profile (LCP) 360 provided leaders with a comprehensive view of how their leadership is experienced by others. Each leader selected 12–15 colleagues at Kapitol to provide anonymous feedback, which offered candid perspectives on their strengths and opportunities for growth.
One leader shared their thoughts on the feedback process:
“I guess seeing the feedback multiple times, from different angles…there are opportunities for improvement. I haven’t spent enough time to better those things, but it’s something to work on, grow, and get better strategies for improvement.”
The feedback sparked meaningful discussions enabling leaders to identify areas for personal development and refine their leadership styles.
Looking Ahead
With Module 2 complete, our leaders are strengthening their capabilities and fostering more collaborative, resilient teams.
Next, they’ll embark on Module 3: Leading an Inspirational Future, which focuses on agile leadership, innovation through design thinking, and building resilience—equipping our leaders with the necessary skills to navigate change and inspire excellence across the business.
