Façade Appreciation | Tan Tat

The prominent feature of the Tan Tat Apartments is the jade-coloured tiles. They were procured from France, specified by the architect, and were cast into the precast panels. The tiled panels are concertinaed as a nod to the client’s heritage and Chinese ornamental screens. The tiles create a stunning visual dynamic uniquely blending the heritage podium with striking modern design.

To ensure quality Tom Stephens, the PM of the project shared that "a key pinch point for us was to make sure that we were checking the quality of the panels, making sure there were no damaged tiles prior coming to site. So, we would send team members out, take photos of the panels prior to delivery, and that just ensured that any damage was rectified offsite"

The incorporation of tiles into the precast panels enables factory-based production, conducted at ground level. In contrast, on-site installation would require working on the building's façade from scaffolding, introducing risks such as material dropping incidents and falls from heights. Through the utilisation of offsite fabrication, these hazards are effectively mitigated, ensuring enhanced safety measures during construction.
