We are delighted to share our first interstate project with long-standing client NEXTDC. This data centre project marks our 15th major project with NEXTDC and we’re extremely proud and grateful to them for the opportunity to continue assisting in their journey towards national digital equity.
A first-of-its-kind for Darwin, the 8MW D1 data centre will enable the NT to connect to a secure and high capacity network. Once complete, the data centre will provide new opportunities for NT's growing digital industry and will support critical services from cloud computing and AI, to IoT applications in sectors as diverse as healthcare, defence and energy.
The commencement of the project was officially marked on-site yesterday with a ground-breaking ceremony attended by NT Chief Minister, the Hon Natasha Fyles, and a welcome to country by Larrakia Elder, Aunty Jeanneen McLennan.
Kapitol’s Director Andrew Deveson spoke at the press conference about the project — “we are excited to work with NEXTDC to deliver the Northern Territory a critical piece of infrastructure for the region. We have been working with NEXTDC on many projects with great success and it is our intent to achieve the same with D1 Darwin.”
We’d also like to take this opportunity to give a shoutout to three members of our team who have relocated from Melbourne to Darwin to manage the project; Lara Kaehne, Shane Galea, and Ibrahim El Halabi. Watch this space as we share more of their journey soon!
Project completion is targeted for mid-2024.
